5 miles

Another cold Saturday morning, bright and early, I was meeting with my Team and Training teammates for our weekly run. Today I did no running. I've been fighting a cold and slept horribly so I kept a slower pace than normal and walked the entire time. But still, I did 5 miles. That is a first for me. Never before have I walked 5 miles all at one time. It wasn't too bad. In fact, I want to do it again tomorrow.  Go me!

Zombie Lulu

Lulu has taken to sitting in the kitchen, normally right next to the fridge, and staring at me. Tonight she sat in the middle of the kitchen for a good 15 minutes before I took this photo. I had sliced some cheese at the counter earlier and I guess she thought if she stared at me long enough she might get some too. Hah! No cheese for you!

Give me cheese

Why I'm running

(or walking, as the case may be)

Good Morning!

It's a brisk 26 degrees at 7:15am and I'm off to meeting with my Team in Training group. We're doing 4 miles today (only, so easy!) around a lake. It's a place I haven't before and it's shaping up to be a beautiful day. Can't wait.

Happy Blogaversary!

It occured to me this morning that I have been blogging for four years. That's a long time to be posting about a whole lot of nothing. Thank you to my regular readers, all 6 of you (3 of which I'm related to). I know things have been really boring around here lately. No more exciting stories about possums, or knitting updates, or even trying to bake cookies in my car.

For the past few weeks I've been trying to figure out where my blogging juju has gone. I still love blogs and blogging but I think life has just gotten in the way. Damn the Man! (what man? who is the Man? I don't have a man...but that is a whole 'nother subject all together).

Anyway, I am going to try to do better. Less reading of other peoples' blogs, more posting on my own.

No, your other right

For the directionally challenged, this sign could be a real nightmare.

Can't wait to sleep tonight

I got a new bed! Yay! It was just delivered and it is awesome. So looking forward to sleeping tonight. In fact, if I had a laptop or a tv in my room I would spend the rest of the day in bed. I guess I could read a book in there but I want to knit too and I've yet to figure out how to read and knit at the same time.

In the store, the new mattress did not seem to be thicker than what I had but now that it's arrived, I can tell it is. Lulu is having a hard time, even with her steps, getting on it and even though she's not supposed to jump off....well, we all know she is. Maybe this will break us both of the step habit once and for all. Also, I don't think my mattress pad (or sheets?!) are going to fit. Oh darn. I'll have to go shopping.

Snowed out

IMG_4495
Today's training did get canceled due to the snow but as soon as I'm done posting this I am headed to the gym. The roads are actually more clear than the previous snow we received but the sidewalks are wetter. So as much as I'd prefer to be outside, I also prefer to have dry toes.

Plus, I've already gotten wet toes this morning. Once again, my brain quit functioning and I forgot that Crocs and snow don't mix. I guess I keep thinking rubber+snow=good and then don't factor in the holes on the top of the shoes. See, when I took Lulu out at 7am I heard a Beagle baying in the woods. Didn't think much of it, as my neighbor has a Beagle. But when I went back out 2 hours later to take some photos the baying was still happening, louder, closer. This poor dog was running around in the woods behind my building. So I went back inside to get some cookies to try to lure her to me. That really pissed Lulu off. How dare I go outside without her and then I take her cookies with me?! But I wasn't able to catch her. Apparently, she's the only Beagle on earth uninterested in food.

Who took over my brain?

Snow is in the forecast for overnight and into the morning and I'm not totally thrilled about it. Not because it makes Lulu pee in the house but because it means we might not have our run in the morning. Work and life have been crazy this week and I haven't gotten to the gym at all (nor have I watched television, just so you know how nuts it's been). I _want_ to run. In the cold. But I can't deal with having to drive in the snow to get to the park. That's not so good.

milka-what?!

No, I didn't watch the Superbowl last night, not even for the commercials. Thankfully, the Internets provideth all. Here's a funny one from last one.

Shoe Drama

First let me say that I survived the training on Saturday. Thankfully, it was not raining and, in fact, it stayed dry until we were finished. Some snowflakes did begin to fall as we left but nothing to write home (or blog) about.

A while back I bought some fancy new running shoes. I went to a store that specializes in said shoes, where they took all kinds of measurements, had me walk barefoot across the store, etc to determine exactly what type of shoe I needed and left with the most expensive pair of athletic that I'd ever purchased. Well, they never did feel quite right and on Saturday's walk I determined that if walking 3 miles bothered me this much there was no way I could walk 13.1 in those shoes.

So back to the store I went.

My saleswoman, whose name I do not know, had the patience of a saint, because I'm pretty sure I tried on every shoe in that store. Most of them slipped in the heel or the arch hit in the wrong spot. Frankly, I think my feet were just over it and got confused. Because I finally decided on what I thought were a pair that would work.

Wrong wrongity wrong.

I wore them around the house Saturday afternoon and then out Saturday night and they made my feet feel like they were on fire. This morning, my feet were still hurting!

Back to the store I'll go later this week. Seriously, I hope they've gotten some new shoes in or something because otherwise I don't know what I'm going to do.

Stuffed Sausage

It's been a busy week here at Chez Lazy. Perhaps we need a new name since it's starting to be less lazy around here. At least for me. Lulu is still pretty lazy.

Last Saturday was supposed to be my first official training session with Team in Training, only it was canceled due to the snow storm. That means tomorrow is our first official outing. 3 miles. Fine, not a problem. I did 4 miles in just over an hour a few weekends ago and I wasn't even pushing myself. However, it is raining buckets. BUCKETS. And we train rain or shine, apparently only skipping it for lightening or snow.

So at lunch today I went to Dick's Sports (*snicker*, yes, I'm twelve) to try to find some long sleeved shirts that will both keep me warm and dry but will also wick any sweat away. Yeah, that did not happen. Apparently, in the UnderArmour, Nike, Reebok world an extra-large is not really an extra-large. I looked like a stuffed sausage. It was not pretty. Not that I need to be pretty but my arms do need to function.

I went back to the office empty handed and proceeded to microwave my lunch, a Lean Cuisine bbq chicken pizza. blech. I took 2 bites (the second just to confirm that my first reaction was correct) and put the entire thing in the trash. Therefore, my lunch consisted of a Jello pudding cup and a diet coke. I kept opening and closing my desk drawer in hopes that a granola bar or some chips might magically appear.

Have you donated yet? Just think of me running in the rain. The laugh is totally worth a $10 donation, don't you think?
