you could make a little thing that hangs from the door with bells on it. Then, teach Lu to use it to let you know she wants to go for a walk.
I need something like that for Ellie because right now she comes and licks my leg or snuffles it and that action always freaks me out and there have been numerous times she has caught me off guard that I've accidentally kicked her.
