Frustration

For the last week or so I have been trying to catch up on some sewing projects that have been in the works for, seriously, the last year. My least favorite part of a sewing project is the pinning and cutting out of the pattern. I just hate that part. Well tonight I finally got this bag all cut out (yeah, yeah, it has taken me over a year) and I was ready to start sewing.

And then I was stuck. Because I can not figure out the first step. It's like I've forgotten how to read! Here are the instructions:

Apply the fusible interfacing to two band sections, following manufacturer's directions. With the right sides together, stitch the two interfaced band sections together along notched ends. The remaining two bands will be referred to as facing.

OOOoooooh....I think I just figured it out. My interfacing is not fusible and I was getting confused. Dur. Let's blame it on the Topamax (one of the side effects can be mental confusion). But you know what, I don't even like this fabric anymore, so maybe it's time to move on to something fun. I'm an adult. I'm allowed to not finish what I start.

What I do

This is what I do all day long....design things like things. Most of the time they are not as fun to work on as this project.

It's not gonna be pretty....

A summer without Project Runway is what....According to the guys over at Project Rungay , season 4 isn't going to start airing until December. DECEMBER! That's 6 months from now. *sob* I need my fashion, dammit!

Oh No He Din't!

I like my Crocs....the first time I ever saw them I thought they were hideous. But they're comfy and they've grown on me. But this.....this might make me have to stop wearing them. If only until January 2009.

This took longer than a baby

So remember that quilt I started last summer? Well I finally got around to sewing the borders on yesterday. Seriously, I did not even cut out the borders until yesterday. It took like 5 minutes. Why did I wait 340 days to do that?! Now it just needs to actually be quilted and I promise that it won't take another year.



Also, just so you know how much I suffer for you people, in the 45 seconds it took me to take this photo I was attacked by mosquitoes and it's a miracle I made it back inside alive.

iSad

For several days now I've been having problems with my 5th gen 30 GB ipod (that would be the 5th generation, 30 gig video ipod for those of you not in the know). Nearly every day at work, I put the buds in my ears and tune in to tune out the rest of the office. You can imagine just how unhappy I was to see the sad mac make an appearance on my iPod screen right before it went black and made scary clicking noises.

So this evening, I took myself and my iPod over to the Apple store at the Domain and one of the genius guys is hooking me up with a new battery. Not for free, unfortunately, but at a very reasonable price. Of course, I am not happy that this battery, which is only 18 months old has failed but from what I've found online this is not unusual with the 5th gens. I should have gotten a nano. Anyway, they didn't have any batteries in stock (hmmm, wonder why) but I left the iPod with them and it should be fixed in 48 hours. I hope so! Good thing I've still got my little blue Shuffle.

Gardening the Lazy way

Several months ago I bought 3 caladium plants to put in a planter by my front door. It just happened to be the weekend of a freak cold snap and after some time it looked like two of the bulbs had died and turned to mush. So, because and I am the Lazy, I plucked the bulbs out and tossed them on the ground, figuring they'd blend in with all the rest of the weeds and dirt.

Well lookee what decided it wasn't dead after all? Isn't that great?! Sometimes good things do happen when you get lazy and sloppy.

You're Invited

I'm throwing a party and you're all invited. What kind of party? A pity party!

Pity because:

~I can no longer drink carbonated beverages due to taking Topamax (for my headaches). It makes them taste flat and funky. Of course, I didn't realize this was an issue until after I bought two boxes of diet Coke and diet Dr. Pepper. This might go away in a few weeks but it might not.

~I'm in between clothing sizes, so all my pants are too big and the next size down is too small.

~All my shoes hurt my feet. Even the gold plated trainers I purchased last weekend. Thank goodness I bought them at Nordstroms, who took them back without question. All I want is shoes that aren't ugly and won't hurt my feet. So far, if they don't hurt my feet they are ugly and, to make it even worse, they are often very expensive.

Let me tell you about a crazy thing I saw tonight. First let me start by saying that the very fact that I left the house after getting home from the gym is amazing. Normally, once I'm home I stay home! But I needed groceries. Which leads me to the crazy thing I saw tonight...

Hard boiled eggs, already peeled, in a bag.

That's right! Can you believe it! I had to reach out and give the bag a squeeze, just to make sure. That made me shudder just a bit.


ps...I found my umbrella. It was under the seat of my car. dur.

Have I lost my mind?

Yesterday, I went to the movies to see Waitress. It was very good. It made me want to make pie. Or just eat some. Whichever. Since I was there, I decided to treat myself to some popcorn and soda. Don't ask me what I was thinking, getting a medium of both! The soda was so large I had to use both hands to lift it out of the cup holder as if I were a child. Seriously. And yes, I did drink it all (even if it did taste a bit flat). Also, I ate most of the giant feed bag of popcorn too. Don't tell my hot trainer.

But seriously, I think I have lost my mind because I can not find my umbrella. I have searched all over the house, the car, and the garage and it is nowhere to be found. You see, it's been raining here as if in preparation for the next Great Flood for like a week and I actually need to use it. I can even see it, lying half open somewhere, in my mind. But where that actually is, I do not know. *sigh*

Save Jericho

Recently, CBS announced that Jericho has been cancelled, despite good reviews and a large viewership. They'd rather keep crap like Two and Half Men on. So if you watched the show and you are not happy with the cancellation, please go here to learn more and sign the petition.

Sad. So very sad. These people are protesting the fact that their children, who did not pass the TAKS, will not be allowed to walk the stage at graduation. According to my sister, the teacher, these kids start taking the test in 10th grade. So they have 3 times to pass. Now look at the spelling on that sign. It's just sad.

Where's my Mr. Big?

So tonight I finally finished watching the last 4 episodes of the last season of Sex and the City. Yes, I know, I'm only a few years behind the times. And yes, I cried...how could I not? Carrie finally got her man. Charlotte got her baby and Smith told Samantha he loved her. Normally, I'm not attracted to blonde men (Chris Noth is much more my type) but hello, Jason Lewis, aka Smith, is hot! I hear he's also been on Brothers & Sisters but that is one show I don't watch.

The next few days tend to be pretty grim around here. On May 31st it will have been 6 years, not that I remember the exact time and moment or anything, since my heart was stomped into a million itty bitty little pieces. I want to date again but the thought of getting hurt again scares me too much. So I stay home and care too much about imaginary men on tv. Need I remind you of my Denny obsession? All I talk about in therapy these days is dating, or the lack there of, and it's getting sooooo old. I'd rather spend the hour bitching about something else but we seemed to have fixed all my other problems.

So what do I need to do?

That's the color name of my new car. Isn't it pretty?! So fresh and shiny and clean. It's got some cool features, like remote keyless entry. Ya'll, you don't even have to put a key in the car to turn it on! As long as the key is in the car, the car will start. Another nifty thing is that on some radio stations, depending on the station itself, I can press a button to see the title/artist of the song playing. That is also very cool. But one thing I am so totally happy about is the seat belt. You see, on my beetle, the sholder belt was too high (and could not adjust down) and would cut into my neck every single time I drove it. I was constantly fighting with it. This one is adjustable and goes low enough that there is no problem. Also, no more plastic, excuse me, "leatherette" seats. No more wet butt! *happy dance*

ACL Fest 2007

The line up for the 2007 Austin City Limits festival was announced today. The headliner is Bob Dylan, which eh, but there are lots of other performers that I'm looking forward to seeing such as Joss Stone, Amy Winehouse, Spoon, Crowded House, and Augustana. None of the band names are really strange, unlike last year when there was a band named I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness

More ranting

My Beetle is nearly 7 years old and has nearly 80k of miles on it. And of course it has yet another oil leak, needs new tires, possibly new brakes and rattles like it's about to fall apart. My new car fever has roared back to life. So the other night I emailed the car salesmen that have been calling and emailing me for the past two months to say that "hey, I'm ready. Here's what I want, do you have it, when I can I test drive, etc"

And do you know what the response to that has been? Nada. Nothing. Zilch. Zip. Do you know what that means? These are crappy ass salesmen. That's what. Believe you me, the commission on a car is way better than a sofa but when I was selling La-Z-Boy I busted my butt for every sale, even a $299 recliner. So why haven't they gotten back to me? Tonight I even went to the dealership after work. It took a lot of courage to do this because I do not want to deal with vulture like car salesmen. Maybe I gave of a don't talk to me vibe because no one did. In fact, I didn't even see a single person out on the lot.

And if you don't like it THEN QUIT WATCHING! How hard is that? I'm so tired of hearing people complain about bad tv shows they watch. No one is glueing their eyeballs to the tv. Change the damn channel. Idiots

Just thought I'd let y'all all know (and yes, that's proper grammar in Texas) that the pathology came back as expected. Atypical moles. So no cancer. Yay. This morning I went back to the doctor so he could see how things are healing up. He removed 2 stitches and the rest are coming out on Friday.

After an exciting weekend of attending the 9th annual Buda Lion Club's Weiner Dog races on Sunday and much playing with Gus and Ellie, this is how Lulu spent the entire day. I took the day off from work and also spent much of the day napping, so we certainly lived up to the Lazy name today.

My favorite book, The Time Traveler's Wife, is being made into a movie. Noooooo. Of course I will want to see the movie and of course I will hate it and then it will be ruined for me forever!

The same thing happened with another book that I love, Absolute Power by David Baldacci. I read that book during my last semester of college and it was the first time I'd read a book for fun during a school semester probably since I got out of high school. Normally I didn't have time to read, what with all the partying and working. Oh yeah, and the studying and design projects. But I was so stressed out that last semester about graduating and finding a job that I started being unable to sleep and having panic attacks. So I went to the store and bought myself an aromatherapy candle. It was something like $12, which is alot of money when you aren't making any, and while standing in line to pay for it I saw the book. I figured that as long as I was going to charge that dumb candle what's another $8 for a paperback book?

I got sucked into the book, which in a quick recap is the story about a US President commiting murder and the murder being witnessed by a thief. Trust me, it was good and just what I needed to distract me. The next year I start seeing ads for the movie, starring Clint Eastwood. I was totally psyched. It was gonna be great! My mom and I go to the theatre and yes it was an okay movie, but the book was forever changed for me. Now I no longer have my own mental image of the characters.

The fact that I love the Time Traveler's Wife soooo much scares me just a little bit. I tell everyone to read it. It's been months (maybe even a year?) since I read it and I still think about it. Of course I think it would make a great movie but what if it sucks? I'll be so sad.

Look! Look what I am growing. Basil! Why yes, this does excite me. The last time I grew anything from seed was in the 4th grade, when we planted beans in empty milk cartons at school. When they finally got big enough for us to take home I managed to drop it as I got off the school bus and it was ruined.

So I'm taking great pride in my little basil plants. Expect to see more photos as they continue to grow.

barely. I don't get it. Why do I still feel like crap? It feels like I'm running a fever, but when I check my temp all is normal. Then there is the constant threat of puking. I wish I would already because then maybe I'd feel better. Gah.

And of course, I have this great work ethic ingrained into me and I can not stay home. I'm so tired of not feeling well. It's been weeks and weeks since I felt myself.

Don't I look fabulous? This is the result of having a suspicious mole removed this morning. Apparently it was located right above an artery and because I take a bunch of aspirin on a near daily basis (for my tension headaches & migraines) I bled like crazy. The doctor then told me I could not go back to work. Oh gee, punish me why don't you?

So I am supposed to spend the rest of the afternoon sitting up, watching tv or reading a book, with my hand pressed against my head lest I start bleeding. Because apparently, that is not a good thing. If it should happen, I am to get myself to the ER right away. Doesn't that sound exciting?

How cute are these luggage tags? Found at The Haute Hound along with about a zillion other adorable things that either Lulu or I need.

This the Women's Urban Cruiser from Chubby Cruisers and I want it. It's just a simple bike, no fancy gears to figure out. They also have cute accessories to go with, such as metal basket or cup holder. I've actually seen a woman riding a bike that looks very similar through my neighborhood to the Target. If I had a bike I could do that. And put Lulu in the basket to go to Petsmart!

This purse organizer from TinyLiving.com is very cool. Storage really isn't an issue for me in my house (except for the kitchen) but currently all my bags living in a box under the bed. So when I want to switch purses I have to pull the box out. It would be much easier if I had this attached to the inside of my closet door where I could quickly get what I wanted. I'm sure I could make this on my own if I felt like it, but therein lies the problem. You all know how things go at the Lazy house. Great ideas, poor execution.

Now I'm off to do some real shopping!

Today is April 20th. 420 that is. That wikipedia entry says that 420 is a discreet way to reference pot/pot culture. Discreet my ass. Maybe if you don't know what it means. For a very long time I didn't. Being a late bloomer and all I didn't try pot until I was in my late 20s. It's not my thing.

If I was going to do drugs, I'd rather do speed because then I might actually quit the lazy and get some stuff done. Also, every company I've worked for has required drug testing to get hired and then the threat of random testing. In the nearly 4 years I've worked at my current company there has been one drug test. Guess who was selected "randomly"? Me. See the kind of luck I have. How bad would it suck to get fired to for that?

One of my friends got fired for calling her boss an anal retentive lunatic in an email to another coworker. I know it's still traumatic for her but it makes me laugh and laugh. But it was true. That woman had been my boss at one point too and once proudly told me that she didn't read (not as in being illiterate just that she chose not to read)! WHAT?!

Enough rambling. I've got to go to work. yay.

The Departed

Last night I was The Departed via Netflix. The movie has been at my house for something like 3 weeks but I just finally got around to watching it. Wow. It was really good. Really violent. Really foul language. But so good that I went to bed thinking about it. That doesn't normally happen. It was also my first Scorsese movie. He certainly deserved his Oscar.

Also, Matt Damon was hot. Surprisingly, I also found Leonardo DiCaprio hot. Normally he does nothing for me. I guess I like scruffy guys with heavy Boston accents. Who knew.

Purses, my second love*

I love purses. In particular, I love the Coach brand of purses. Sometimes, having expensive taste but staying fiscally responsible sucks. Luckily, there is a Coach outlet not far from me and I've gotten a couple of bargains there. The wallet show above is $198 and the bag is $218.

*When I figure out what my first love is, I'll let you know. But if I had to guess I'd say food.

Why do I keep finding dead animals around my house? This time Lulu is not responsible. I found this little bird on my driveway when I came home tonight and am hoping that some cat will come along and eat it because I'm all out of plastic gloves and I don't want to touch it.

Also, when I went to bring my garbage can in from the street, there was a used condom on the ground next to it. That did not fall out of my trash can! My neighborhood is so ghetto. You know people aren't finding that sort of thing on their curb in Westlake!

This Saturday, Lulu and I are going to participate in the Mighty Texas Dog Walk. Years ago my mom and I participated with our dachshund, Coco, and it was a lot of fun. You can't really walk very fast because of all the dogs and people but that's fine with me. We are the Lazy here, afterall.

My general manager is also going and hopefully he'll be bringing Spanky. Spanky is the nearly 2 year old female English Bulldog that he shares with his ex. Sometimes, Spanky visits the office and she's so adorable it's hard to get any work done. Look at that face! How can you have a bad day when she comes along and snorts at you.

It's not your typical weather here in Austin, Texas and as you can see, Lulu has spent much of her time curled up in my bed. That's also how I spent much of yesterday since I was not feeling well enough to drive through freezing rain to my parents' house. Also, since my sister and her boyfriend were going to be spending the night there as well I would have to share a bed with my sister.

That's right, I'm 33 years old and I still have to share a bed with my sister. Why, you ask? Because my parents only have a 3 bed house. So one bed for them, one bed for me and one bed for my sister. If one of us brings home a boy, then he gets a bed and the sisters have to shack up together. Don't ask me what will happen if I ever start dating again and bring someone home the same weekend that Kristin and El Hombre come to visit.

Do you see that? Do you see that the HIGH today is 45 degrees. It's APRIL. Just a couple of days ago we hit 90 and I had to turn on the a/c when I got home from work. I refuse to turn on the heater. Schizophrenic weather, that's what.

Silver lining: I never did around to making the skirt I had planned for Easter. Now it's too cold to wear it anyway. I will be wearing pants to church tomorrow.

Advance Notice

My birthday isn't for quite some time, but I'm just putting this out there for my loved ones to take note. I want this cake from William-Sonoma. So what if it's a birthday cake for kids! It's a giant cupcake!

Adorable

This new pattern from Amy Butler is sooo cute. Now I know what I want to make with my stash of black & white fabric that I've been collecting for the last year. Originally, I was going to make a quilt but as much as I love all my fabrics I wasn't really crazy about the idea of a black & white quilt in my home. Not that my home really has a style (I aspire for that Crate & Barrel meets Pottery Barn aesthetic) but I know what doesn't work.

I'm working from home today. Yes, I really am working. A girl's allowed a popcorn break, isn't she?

Is this Hell?

Why yes, yes I think it is. So last Saturday I switched from one SSRI to another. My doctor warned me that I would feel pretty crappy. "Like how?" I asked. Like really PMS she said. WRONG. Unless really bad PMS includes constant crying (not little delicate tears, but big giant, messy, snotty sobs), nausea, intestinal distress, dizzyness, paranoia and night sweats.

In addition to all that fun, work has been hell. This week I cranked out a bid for our Houston office and four floors for a hospital. Being the end of the month and the end of the quarter, everyone wanted their stuff RIGHT NOW. Hold your horses! It's just office furniture, not life and death! Plus there's a bunch of other stuff about my job that gets on my nerves but that I don't want to post about (and that's not just the paranoia talking).

Needless to say, there has been no crafting going on here.

Update: I decided to take one of the old pills and after about 20 minutes felt so much better. So that's what I'm gonna do until I can talk to my doctor. In fact, she might have even told me to do that, but I swear if I don't write it down I don't remember it. Getting old, I guess.

Bess Bistro

Sandra Bullock has a new restaurant in Austin. It's called Bess Bistro and I really want to try it out. The menu looks good but vegetarian options are lacking. Not a problem for me, but I have a couple of veg friends who would have to just have salad and bean soup.

Purge

In AutoCAD, there is a purge command. Purge is one of my favorite commands. The function of purge is to rid the drawing of any layers, blocks, and text style that are not needed, therefore freeing up space. CAD drawings are huge files. The size of the drive that my office keeps the drawings on....6.5 gigabytes. Now if you are like me and not really knowing what that means just think of this....my iPod holds 30 gigabytes. Something ain't right here, ya know? Anyway, I digress....

My point of all this is that wouldn't it be nice if there were a purge function for your brain? Just think of the stuff you could get rid of: your childhood best friend's phone number, the birth dates of old crushes, the fact that every time you hear a certain INXS song you are taken back to a random and not at all important memory. I need this function because I can't remember things like my former address from less than 2 years ago, frequently my own home phone number, what I ate for dinner last night.

In the Harry Potter books there is a pensive. It's a bowl where you can place memories to make space in your brain and if you need the memory again, there it is. That also would be a good thing to have. Then I could save the important stuff and purge the junk.

Ramblings about blisters and such

Yesterday, I took Lulu for a walk along our usual route. My shoes are kind of new, but not that new, so maybe it was my socks that gave me a small blister on my heel. After that, I went to the gym. The blister didn't hurt that much and since I do the elliptical, I figured I be okay. Wrong. It didn't start hurting until tonight but oh my god, the pain. My family thinks I'm a big baby, and usually I am, but seriously, this hurts. Think that stinging pain you get from a tattoo before the endorphins kick in.

Hmmmm, okay that's not a good analogy for those of you lacking ink. Oh! Digression: another thing to add to my If I had $1,000,000 list--more ink.

Speaking of sun burns....or rather the damage they cause 25 years later (how am I old enough to have had something happen to me over 25 years ago? but I digress)...

When I was at the doctor (my GP) last week, just for a check up before she takes off for 4 months, she made a not happy face at a dark freckle I have on the side of my hairline. It's been there for several years and I even had a dermatologist look at it last year. That doctor didn't seem worried. But if my regular doctor is, well it makes me worry just a wee wincey bit. (yes, dad, I'm making up words again). Plus, part of it does look darker.

Nearly six years ago my GP cut a spot out of my arm that turned out to be pre-cancerous. She was worried about it enough to send me to a dermatologist, who cut out even more and left me with a nasty scar. I almost wish I was blogging back then because I would have had the best grossest picture to show ya'll. My entire upper left bicep bruised up and looked like a raw steak. I got woozy the first time I had to change the dressing. It was awesome.

So I guess I need to go back to the derm and have it looked at. If anything requiring cutting, or stitches or anything else gross happens I'll be sure to let you know.

Doxie art

So I finally broke down and bought the little doxie art that I've been wanting forever. It will look nice framed out and hung next to Lulu's portrait and another piece of dog art that my sister gave me for my birthday. She found this interesting piece at the Austin City Limits festival. It's by an artist named Rokoko. I really liked it but balked at the price. However, by the end of the day I had decided I wanted it anyway but when I went back to buy it, the piece had been sold. Little did I know that Kristin had bought it and been carrying it around in her bag all day! Isn't she just the best sister ever?

Work it Out

It's a beautiful Saturday morning and after sleeping for nearly 12 hours, I'm starting to feel human again. Now if only I could get dressed and take Lulu for a walk and then hit the gym.

Seriously

Last night my dvr decided to rebel and not record Gray's Anatomy, despite saying it would. You can imagine how mad I was when I discovered this at 8:40 last night. If my computer had proper sound then I would just watch it online tonight for free. But it doesn't, so I won't.

So I have this song from the Barenaked Ladies stuck in my head. Don't ask me why, but I'm hoping that blogging about it will make it go away!

So if I had a million dollars (multiple millions would really be better), here's how I'd spend it--not in any particular order except for #1:

1. Quit my job ASAP
2. Pay off my mortgage
3. Buy a new car
4. Renovate my condo...finally bathroom counters that aren't sized for a child
5. Pay off my parents' mortgage
6. Buy my sister a house
7. Travel the world (mostly Europe)
8. Go to Barnes & Noble and buy every single thing I want

There is, of course, much more but I've got to get back to work!

I Smell Dead People

As often happens in the spring, I am plagued by tension headaches. Or so I thought. Turns out they are actually migraines. Most of the time they are just a nuisance, but lately they have me smelling things.

So this morning, as I try to shake off the sleep and pad into the kitchen for water, I smell something. Something dead. I look around for another possum present, but don't see anything. Lulu pleads the 5th. There's nothing to be found, so I guess it's going to be another fun headache day. Just shoot me now!

Charmed, I'm sure

Duff Goldman is my new imaginary boyfriend. If you haven't heard of him, his tv show, Ace of Cakes, or his bakery, Charm City Cakes, in Baltimore, Maryland....well just back off. The cake and the man are all mine.
